Overall I do believe the Ganga Action plan was a success in the short term. This plan was government backed and was able to actually implement a water quality monitoring program and strengthen the ones that already existed. They were also able to collect waste form the points sources and re-releasing the pollution downstream so it cleaned up the waterfronts. The action plan also brought awareness to the pollution that was happening in the river. That being said there needs to be some things set in place for long term sustainability. I think the view of the plan is a little narrow in that is seems they are only looking at cleaning up the the rivers and looking at the the social and economic things that contribute to the pollution. They are also going to more support and cooperation from the public and businesses.
