A highly populated area can bring many issues to the environment. The effects on it depends on what kind of population it is, whether a rural o urban one. Karatu is mostly rural and their main source of living is agriculture. This means that they overwork the soil and it has its consequencues such as soil erosion, which means that it becomes less fertile and can contaminate water reservoirs or rivers. Deforestation is another effect of overpopulation and it reduces the habitat of variety of animals, and it can also lead to global warming. There would also be loss of fresh water because of the high demand of the population. If there were sanctions limiting development in an area, it would affect families living in that determined area because, as I mentioned before, in the case of Karatu; it´s main source of living is agriculture and there would´nt be any enconomic income. The market would be paralized. There would have to be an strategy or a plan to create new sources of income so that the affected families would´nt be left to their luck.
