To say that awareness is not apart of sustainability, but political and economic relations are, seems to me almost ignorant. I’m sure the person who wrote the statement is probably more educated than me in the matter, and most likely would have a great argument if questioned; however, if awareness is not apart of sustainability, how would one know that sustainability is even an issue? I think awareness, particularly self awareness to a local, community, or regional/national issue is the core issue. For instance let’s say there was some form of natural disaster, and you have a vehicle filled with gasoline. The vehicle and gas represent political and economic relations, they need to both be there and functioning, the car must be in good running order to get there, and the gasoline needs to be petroleum and not water. However, the car can’t just get there, you need to drive it. If you’re not aware, then you won’t go, regardless of the other two.
In conclusion, I agree and disagree to the statement, I think the three are needed to be able to solve sustainability issues.
