One definition of sustainability is “avoidance of depletion of natural resources in order to maintain balance”. In my opinion, to achieve and maintain such balance there has to be a combination of all the factors mentioned in the question (awareness, social, political and economic relations). It has to start with being aware of the surroundings, of what needs to be improved at the local level in order to have a better quality of life overall. The government then should work together with the local population to determine the areas that need the most work and how those areas can be improved with the resources currently available without depleting them fully. And, of course, the economic portion ties in because well, everything costs money. I don’t have any arguments for this proposition because I think that awareness is necessary to pinpoint those areas. Without awareness, how do we know what is currently affecting our environment and our quality of life?
