I think that the Ganga Action Plan was definitely a step in the right direction; however, I wouldn’t deem it a success. One positive outcome of the Ganga Action Plan was that it did help identify some of the more specific hurdles that need to be addressed before any real progress can be made. Most of these hurdles surrounded the issue of lack of education in the community about the spread of infectious disease related to the pollution and changes that could be/ need to be made. The plan did promote awareness about overall pollution; however, failed to relate this to the spread of disease and thus no real reduction in these numbers were found. Furthermore, through the implementation of the plan, a real problem with the infrastructure of the area surrounding the Ganges River was identified thus limiting the ability of the water treatment plants to make an impact in decreasing the pollution in the water.
