I do not believe that the government or research industry is "playing God" when making Genetically Modified Organisms. I believe that the research groups are using their knowledge and advanced technology to provide a better means of food quality and quantity for a needed population. For certain populations, GMOs are necessary for their survival and for other populations GMOs would only improve their health. If we have the means to provide better care for a population in need, would it not be defying beneficence? I realize their would to be a chance of reducing biodiversity and may have a risk of causing chronic medical conditions, but none of issues have been researched or proven. So, I believe until the risks outweigh the benefits then we should continue with GMOs in countries that are in need for their survival.
