There are many challenges when in comes to the healthcare of undocumented workers. And many of them have little to do with the medicine and actual clinical aspects. Some of the biggest hurdles are the culture and language barriers. Undocumented workers are very likely to speak a different language and not be able to speak or understand the native language of the region they're working in. This means that on top of being scared of being discovered, scared of whatever could be making them sick, and scared of the issues associated with being sick like missing work and being unable to earn money that they need, they may not even be able to effectively communicate with the physician they go to see for help and may be inclined to not go at all. Healthcare for undocumented workers is also difficult in some places because without insurance, it can be very difficult to get proper healthcare or be able to pay for the services. Also, patient compliance is a large issue from actually getting a them to go to the doctor, or make a return visit, to getting them to find, pay for, and take medications that they may need. The long distances some may have to travel to see a doctor or to get medications definitely prevents many from pursuing the best course of action for their health. Likewise, paying for medication or office visits over other necessities is a difficult decision for many, and may not seem worth it.
