I believe that family planning education is extremely important to try to control overpopulation, but I also don't believe it's our only strategy. I think that the overpopulation issue will only be resolved with a combination of efforts. However, it is well known that many cultures don't have the same access to education that others have access to. These cultures have different expectations for when women bear children and the number of children than some other cultures. For example, in the United States, the average woman will start giving birth in her late 20s and typically have about 2-3 children. Other cultures will start giving birth at much younger ages and also bear many more children. It is possible to implement family education to these cultures to give them another option for what they are doing currently, but also, is it really our place to infiltrate another way of life by claiming that "our" way is "better"? We see this education as an entirely positive thing, where these cultures might see family planning education as offensive.
I think we have to be extremely careful when utilizing family planning education for these reasons. Yes, we are trying to figure out how to resolve overpopulation, but forcing our ideals onto another group of people isn't necessarily the best way. If anything, it might be best to suggest a meeting and let the culture decide if they are interested in hearing about this type of education. If not, forcing ourselves upon them will not solve anything. In fact, it could make things worse in terms of national relations. There are definitely limitations to family planning education because of this. Even if we do have the option to educate others, it doesn't mean that our ideals will be followed at all. All we can solidify is that this culture now has the resources and understanding to try to limit overpopulation if that's what they see fit. It can definitely be included as one piece of the overpopulation solution puzzle, but it is in no way comprehensive. This issue is bigger than just one solution; we will need many more resources and options to come together if we want to completely solve this problem.
