The basic problem may be for not having developed strategies that can put into action the population aware of a sustainable consumption and production in which both the current inhabitants and future generations would benefit.
The basic dilemma can be interpreted as the overexploitation of resources by humans that have a selfish nature that leads them only to ensure their welfare. The human egoism born due to the desperation for obtaining resources to feed their families will be the factor that causes the imminent end of the environment.
