I believe that social, political, and economic relations play a large role in sustainability by fostering the exchange of both knowledge and technologies. However, without awareness, support, and a true desire to enact change on the part of the individual, the potential for pushback or resistance against the conditions put in place exists which could quickly reverse any progress made with respect to sustainability. People have to be intrinsically motivated with actions they implement in order to purposefully live a lifestyle of sustainability. Even if there were policies in place or social movements, individuals who are not convinced could become resistant and counterproductive of sustainability. Without awareness, sustainability may not be as effective in the long run.
